The harder you blow, the laouder it gets.  It can be so laoud it can scare anyone, but it can also be so quiete you can play it inside your home.
If you are musically inclined, you can do tonguing to make various sounds which are great for animal training.

These traditional whistles were used by indigenous people all over the world.  
Our family is keeping this old tradition alive, we recycle buffalo horns and craft them and decorate them with a buffalo bone bead and a piece of leather from buffalo hyde.
